The University of Gothenburg, one of the largest universities in the Nordic countries, planned to migrate its email to Microsoft Office 365. A major server outage prior to migration underscored the need for a reliable, independent backup solution to complement the cloud service, ensuring enhanced data protection and recovery capabilities. The university engaged vendor Proact to address this challenge.

Proact implemented a solution built on the Commvault Backup & Recovery platform, which enabled on-premise backup of the Office 365 email data to the university's existing NetApp StorageGrid. This provided robust security and recovery options without requiring significant new hardware, leveraging the institution's current infrastructure for greater economy. The scalable solution also offers the future potential to extend data protection to other applications like SharePoint and databases.
