IMS Health Brogan, the Canadian branch of IMS Health, needed a way to securely access and de-identify up to 5 million electronic medical records so it could use richer EMR data for public health reporting, disease outcome analysis, and research without risking patient privacy. To support this, the company worked with Privacy Analytics and its Expert Determination-based de-identification software.

Privacy Analytics built a customized de-identification process that allowed IMS Health Brogan to safely use EMR data at scale, including regularly de-identifying more than 915,000 patient records for analytical use. The result was higher-quality, privacy-protected datasets that enabled better diabetes and rheumatology analysis, supported research and product innovation, and gave clients more accurate, timely insights for treatment evaluation, trial recruitment, and unmet-need assessment.
