A Privacy Analytics Case Study
Canadian Primary Care Sentinel Surveillance Network (CPCSSN) needed a secure way to extract, aggregate, and share vital electronic medical record (EMR) data for chronic disease surveillance, primary care research, and practice quality improvement while protecting patient privacy. To address this challenge, CPCSSN worked with Privacy Analytics and used its de-identification software and expertise to reduce re-identification risk and make data more usable for analytics.
Privacy Analytics helped CPCSSN implement a risk-based de-identification approach integrated with CPCSSN’s data platform, enabling staff to clean, normalize, and safely share data from across Canada. The result was more than 100 million properly de-identified records from over one million patients at 130+ primary care sites, supporting 100+ research studies and better reporting, disease surveillance, and practice improvement.
