A Privacy Analytics Case Study
CajunCodeFest, an open data competition led by the State of Louisiana and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, needed a way to share real-world healthcare data with developers while protecting patient privacy. Privacy Analytics helped address the challenge by using its software to assess re-identification risk and de-identify sensitive data for secondary use.
Using Privacy Analytics’ risk-based anonymization approach, the state masked and de-identified data covering 200,000 individuals, 30,604 providers, millions of Medicaid claims and prescriptions, and immunization records. The result was 15 viable healthcare applications developed during the 27-hour event, while enabling safer access to data for innovation and supporting ongoing public health analytics.
