A Privacy Analytics Case Study
Better Outcomes Registry & Network (BORN), a large Canadian maternal, birth, and newborn data registry, needed a reliable way to assess and manage privacy risk when sharing sensitive EMR and population-based birth data with researchers, government agencies, and other health organizations. BORN worked with Privacy Analytics and its de-identification software to enable evidence-based discussions about risk while protecting patient privacy.
Privacy Analytics integrated its de-identification platform with BORN’s Information System to assess re-identification risk and de-identify data based on its intended use. The solution gave BORN a quantitative, objective way to share data safely, supporting policy analysis, research, public health surveillance, and funding decisions; over more than six years, it helped BORN provide high-utility data with lower privacy risk, supporting improved maternal and child health care across Ontario.
