Sun Life Enables Advanced Analytics Without Compromising Data Security with Privacera and AWS

Sun Life, one of the world’s largest life insurance companies, needed to migrate its data security platform to AWS while preserving the Apache Ranger investment it already relied on for protecting sensitive customer and PII data. The company wanted a cloud-ready way to maintain unified, fine-grained access controls across its analytics environment without slowing down access for approved users. Privacera, using its data security and governance platform, was brought in to help bridge that transition.

Privacera implemented row-level and column-level access controls across Sun Life’s AWS-based environment, including Amazon S3 and Amazon EMR, enabling secure data access for analytics while keeping restricted information protected. The solution allowed Sun Life to manage access and compliance across 200 Amazon EMR nodes and reduce policy changes from three to four weeks of programming to less than two days. With Privacera, Sun Life strengthened data security, supported faster analytics, and improved agility across its cloud migration.
