A Primitive Spark Case Study
The Tech Museum of Innovation, a hands-on science center in Silicon Valley, partnered with the vendor Primitive Spark and JCA to reinvent its visitor experience. The challenge was to create an interactive and social platform that would work seamlessly across the museum's website, mobile site, gallery kiosks, and interactive exhibits. This new system needed to be highly adaptable, supporting features like accessibility standards, multiple languages, and privacy protections for children, while providing different functionalities for on-site and off-site use.
Primitive Spark developed a single, adaptive HTML5 website called my.thetech.org to serve as the unified interface. The solution included an RFID-enhanced museum map that allowed visitors to track their activities and group members in real time. By conducting extensive user research and testing, Primitive Spark created an intuitive design that worked effectively in the museum's varied lighting conditions. The new system empowered the museum's 50,000 yearly visitors to plan trips, share itineraries, and engage with exhibits in a personalized and collaborative way.
