Increasing Price Leadership and Improving Employee Morale

Nebraska Furniture Mart (NFM), a Berkshire Hathaway-owned retailer with three large stores across North America, needed a faster way to stay price-competitive in its electronics and appliances departments. Each night it checked competitors’ online prices and then had staff manually replace up to 600 paper labels every morning, which was time-consuming, difficult to manage, and hard on employee morale. To solve this, NFM turned to Pricer and its SmartTAG electronic shelf labels.

Pricer implemented centrally managed ESLs across NFM’s stores, allowing prices to be updated on unlimited items from one computer in seconds, with changes automatically going live before opening. The rollout reduced the burden on staff, improved morale, and let employees focus more on customer service rather than tag changes. NFM also used the labels as a marketing tool to reinforce its low-price guarantee, and the company deployed about 30,000 graphic ESLs with a seamless installation supported by Pricer and MarginMate.
