East of England Co-Op saves 1.8 million meals with Pricer

The East of England Co-op, a major UK independent retailer, faced the significant challenge of eliminating the manual burden of paper labels and combating food waste, which was a major drain on staff time and profit. To address this, they partnered with vendor Pricer to implement Pricer Plaza and Pricer SmartTAG Color ESLs.

By integrating Retail Insight's AI-powered Waste Insight analytics with Pricer's electronic shelf label platform, the solution automated dynamic markdowns and product locating. This allowed for real-time price updates and a flashing light on the ESL to guide staff to items nearing expiry. The results for the customer were substantial, including saving 1.8 million meals from waste, preventing 2,000 tonnes of landfill waste, and achieving £1 million in annual efficiency savings. Pricer's technology also created a paper-free environment with complete pricing accuracy.
