NASA Gets Credibility Boost for Future Funding

NASA sought to develop a safer, more cost-effective reusable launch vehicle and faced the challenge of generating credible life cycle cost estimates to justify its budget requests to Congress. To address this, NASA engaged PRICE Systems to help build a foundation for these estimates.

PRICE Systems consultants analyzed historical Space Shuttle cost data to derive a new set of manufacturing complexities. They developed independent life cycle cost estimates for new vehicle designs and integrated the PRICE Estimating Suite with NASA's engineering tools to provide real-time cost feedback. This resulted in a high level of cost estimating competency for NASA, giving the agency greater credibility for future funding requests and leading to further internal training on the PRICE models.
