NARA Uses PRICE to Develop Business Case Analysis

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) partnered with PRICE Systems and Altarum to create a business case analysis for its Electronic Records Archives (ERA) modernization program. The challenge was to justify the investment to oversight bodies by developing a robust life cycle cost estimate for several technical alternatives to preserve essential government digital records.

PRICE Systems implemented a methodology that involved analyzing current systems, projecting future workloads, and estimating costs. This process identified significant cost avoidance opportunities, including drastically reducing the expense of converting and storing data in a usable digital format. The PRICE analysis provided NARA with the quantified business case needed to secure approval for the program.
