A PRICE Systems Case Study
Boeing North American, a major aerospace and defense contractor, faced the challenge of creating accurate and rapid cost estimates for complex proposals. Their traditional cost-estimating relationships (CERs) were insufficient for modern, high-technology projects, leading them to seek a more scientific and automated methodology. To achieve this, they partnered with vendor PRICE Systems to implement its parametric estimating models and tools.
The solution involved forming a dedicated team to utilize PRICE's activity-based, technology-driven models, supported by an extensive historical cost database. This allowed Boeing North American to generate auditable and verifiable estimates directly tied to the physics of a design in a matter of days. The implementation by PRICE Systems established a new paradigm of Computer Aided Pricing (CAP), moving the company toward its ultimate goal of fully automated proposal generation and establishing parametrics as its formal basis of estimate.
