Major Seaport Closures Company faced a major supply chain risk in Indonesia when TKBM port workers, responsible for loading and unloading cargo, were expected to strike across the country’s seaports. With early grassroots social media chatter and growing public reports, the company needed a way to identify and prepare for disruptions before they escalated. Prewave provided risk detection and strike prediction capabilities to help anticipate the event.

Prewave analyzed social media, local news, and other pre-signals using machine learning to turn an initial, date-less alert into a concrete strike prediction with a specific date and location. As a result, Prewave warned of the strike more than 14 days in advance, and the mass action ultimately affected dozens of seaports across Indonesia, including 97 seaports in total.
