Predictive Modeling Used To Help Protect the Environment And Save Costs

Thames Water, a UK utility responsible for water supply and wastewater treatment, needed a way to understand how flooding in its wastewater network led to pollution incidents, costly leaks, negative publicity, and customer dissatisfaction. Presidion helped Thames Water address this challenge using predictive modeling and analytics capabilities.

Presidion implemented a predictive model to analyze incident data and identify the maintenance holes most at risk of flooding and causing pollution, enabling targeted preventive maintenance such as pipe cleaning and water main replacement. The result was a tenfold improvement in precision for identifying high-risk sites, maintenance of 2,000 utility holes to help prevent about 120 pollution incidents over two years, and estimated financial savings of USD 4.7 million per year through reduced regulatory fines.
