College Lowers Desktop Costs in Computer Labs by 30 Percent with Virtual Desktops

Volunteer State Community College, in Gallatin, Tennessee, needed a cost-effective way to support a growing student population, refresh computer labs to meet a state mandate for computer-based instruction, and free up IT staff time for online learning initiatives. The college worked with Presidio and implemented Cisco Virtualization Experience Infrastructure (VXI) with Citrix XenDesktop.

Presidio helped Volunteer State Community College replace laptops in computer labs with Cisco Virtualization Experience Client endpoints and a virtual desktop architecture. The college said desktop costs fell by 30 percent, deployment time for the first set of virtual desktops dropped to less than two hours, and IT management time was reduced, giving the team more time to focus on other initiatives and online learning.
