Bibb County School District Lays the Foundation of Schools of the Future

Bibb County School District serves more than 25,000 K–12 students in the Macon, Georgia area and needed to modernize its IT infrastructure for a 21st-century learning environment. Its distributed server model across 41 schools and 12 support facilities made management difficult, and aging hardware and limited bandwidth were causing reliability and performance problems. The district worked with Presidio to find a way to centralize IT without adding headcount.

Presidio deployed a FlexPod Datacenter infrastructure with NetApp FAS3220 storage, Cisco UCS blade servers, and Cisco Nexus switches, along with VMware vSphere virtualization and a disaster recovery site. The result was 100% systems availability, improved reliability and performance districtwide, and the ability to support BYOD and one-to-one initiatives. Bibb County also gained disaster recovery capabilities, eliminated downtime for applications and data, and kept the project within its operating budget.
