The customer, Apache Superset, an open-source data visualization platform, needed a better way to analyze the engagement and health of its own community on GitHub. Existing tools provided only basic metrics, and the team at Preset, the vendor supporting the Superset project, required deeper insights into complex metrics like time to first comment or the percentage of issues closed by bots.

Preset developed and open-sourced a solution using a Jupyter notebook to extract data from the GitHub API and load it into a database. They then built a customizable dashboard within their own Superset service to visualize the data. This allowed the Preset team to effectively monitor community engagement. The solution was made publicly available, providing value to other organizations and demonstrating the capabilities of the Superset platform.
