Case Study: Apache Superset achieves faster ephemeral test environments with Preset

A Preset Case Study

Apache Superset boosts CI quality with Preset and doubles down on test coverage

The Apache Superset open source project, supported by Preset, faced the challenge of maintaining a high-quality codebase amidst a high volume of contributions. They needed a way to efficiently test UI changes that required human review without the manual overhead of having every contributor run code locally in a development environment.

Preset implemented a solution using GitHub Actions and AWS Fargate to create ephemeral test environments. This system automatically builds a Docker image from a pull request, pushes it to a private AWS ECR registry, and then deploys it as a publicly-accessible test environment on Fargate. The solution, sponsored by Preset, successfully reduced manual testing overhead, increased community adoption of testing, and helped prevent regressions in the project, all while managing costs effectively.
