Waddesdon Manor - Customer Case Study

Waddesdon Manor Archive, a purpose-built repository for the Rothschild family and Estate records, faced a growing digital preservation challenge: roughly 3 TB of digitised and born-digital material scattered across shared drives, SharePoint and removable media, at risk of degradation, format obsolescence and unclear copyright. This fragmentation made searching and controlled access difficult for senior stakeholders, marketing and external researchers, limiting the archive’s value to the organisation and the public.

Waddesdon adopted Preservica’s cloud-hosted digital preservation platform to ingest and protect emails, SharePoint content, websites and legacy files while providing customizable internal and public access. The hosted solution reduced local IT overhead, enabled bulk metadata editing and streamlined curation, freeing staff time and improving access for the CEO, marketing team and researchers. Early results include more reliable long-term preservation, faster discovery and plans to open additional collections (e.g., Butrint and governance records) to inform decision-making and public engagement.
