A Preservica Case Study
The University at Buffalo (UB) Archives houses extensive cultural and institutional records dating back to the 1800s, but faced growing risk and limited access for its digital holdings. A backlog of born-digital content stored on vulnerable media, unclear file inventories, and slow discovery processes created copyright, access, and preservation challenges that constrained service to students, faculty, scholars, and the public.
UB selected Preservica’s cloud-hosted active digital preservation for its ease of use, ArchivesSpace integration, and Universal Access capabilities. The platform enabled scalable ingestion of born-digital materials, synchronized metadata with ArchivesSpace to eliminate manual re-keying, sped discovery, supported digitization of the student newspaper and exhibitions, and expanded online access for internal and external audiences.
