Texas State Library & Archives Commission Turn to the Cloud to Launch Texas Digital Archive

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) — custodian of Texas’s historical and government records — faced a sudden influx of born‑digital material, including 7 TB from Governor Rick Perry plus another 26 TB of electronic records, without a suitable system to preserve and provide access. With a statutory mandate to keep permanent records usable into the future, TSLAC needed a secure, standards‑based solution to ensure long‑term accessibility and compliance.

Following a formal procurement, TSLAC selected Preservica’s cloud‑hosted digital preservation platform on AWS GovCloud. The OAIS‑compliant, encrypted service delivered geographic replication, automated format migration and reduced local IT overhead; as a result TSLAC launched the Texas Digital Archive, met its legal obligations, expanded public and internal access to vital records, and began onboarding additional agency collections.
