Case Study: HSBC preserves and future-proofs 150 years of history with Preservica

A Preservica Case Study

Preview of the HSBC Case Study

Preservica partners with HSBC to protect and future-proof digital assets of unique strategic, historical and brand importance

HSBC, a global bank founded in 1865 with a 150‑year archive of paper and born‑digital assets, faced the challenge of preserving and making discoverable a vast, mixed collection—ranging from photographs and films to Lotus Notes emails—without an adequate cataloguing or long‑term digital preservation system, while also navigating security, compliance and cross‑departmental buy‑in.

HSBC implemented Preservica Enterprise on‑premise to create a unified digital archive that synchronises metadata with the catalogue, automates format migration and provides audit trails and secure access. The system now holds about 200,000 records (23,000 digital files, ~3.5 TB), recognises 800+ file formats with 300+ migration pathways, and has improved preservation, processing efficiency and accessibility, with plans to expand ingest points and usability across the organisation.
