Anoka County 911, the public safety communications department for Minnesota's fourth-most populous county, sought to enhance its emergency call center (ECC) operations amidst industry-wide staffing shortages and the high-pressure demand for accuracy. To address these challenges, the county implemented assistive AI technology from the vendor Prepared, utilizing their Prepared Assist product to support call-takers and supervisors.
The Prepared solution provided real-time call transcription, translation for over 33 languages, and a supervisor dashboard with live monitoring and keyword alerts. This resulted in immediate improvements, including the prevention of dispatch errors to incorrect locations and the swift handling of non-English calls without delay. Director Kari Morrissey reported that the tool improved training effectiveness, helped new telecommunicators get certified sooner, and alleviated job pressure, thereby aiding in staff retention and creating a more positive, efficient, and accurate operational environment.
