WHO gains rapid health insight in 1 month with Premise

The World Health Organization (WHO) faced the challenge of rapidly assessing the urgent healthcare needs of millions of Ukrainians affected by the Russian invasion. They needed to collect timely data on health needs, quality of care, and accessibility in several liberated and frontline oblasts to guide their emergency response efforts. To meet this challenge, they turned to the vendor Premise and its data collection service.

Using Premise, the WHO deployed bimonthly surveys to gather spatially and temporally relevant data directly from households. Within just one month, Premise provided results showing the most needed medicines and the primary barriers to accessing care, which were security, time, and cost. These findings enabled the WHO to develop an evidence-based approach for allocating resources and have been used by national stakeholders and internal teams to coordinate the humanitarian response and plan for recovery operations.
