A Premise Case Study
USAID partnered with Premise to help tackle a major Zika outbreak in Cali, Colombia, where public health teams lacked a real-time system to manage mosquito surveillance, control, and prevention activities. The challenge was to quickly identify Aedes aegypti breeding sites and act on them faster than traditional hospital-reporting workflows allowed.
Premise designed smartphone-based citizen tasks, real-time dashboards, and data visualization tools that enabled local residents to inspect homes, report breeding sites, and destroy them while giving health authorities live operational insight. The pilot engaged more than 7,000 citizens across three Colombian cities, completed over 108,130 tasks and 108,000 home inspections, destroyed more than 70,070 breeding sites, and reduced breeding sites in inspected areas by 65%—from 3.5 to 1.2 on average.
