Case Study: USAID uses Premise to link gang violence monitoring with migration risk in Honduras

USAID maps citizen security in 55 Honduran colonias with Premise

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) launched an initiative to better understand the link between citizen security and migration in Honduras. Their challenge was to find new, more effective monitoring approaches to guide resource allocation decisions. To meet this challenge, USAID worked with Premise to utilize its crowdsourced data collection service.

Premise deployed over 4,000 contributors to collect hyper-localized, contextual data on nine security indicators, including proxy measures of gang influence. The data collected established a clear correlation between gang violence and the intention to migrate. This enabled USAID to justify continued support for violence prevention programs and connect those efforts directly to achieving broader U.S. Government objectives in the region.
