ABB - Customer Case Study

ABB Drives, part of global ABB, faced a persistent soldering bottleneck on its Helsinki AC drives production line: paper-based quality data were non-uniform and it was difficult to track correct soldering parameters or plan maintenance for the soldering robot. Predisys was engaged to address this challenge using its eCoach™ solution (now rebranded Predisys Analytical Suite) to capture, analyze and present process data to shop-floor users.

Predisys implemented a web-based eCoach™ system (three-month installation including server, a customized data-acquisition interface and training) that reads product-type data from assembly palettes, evaluates soldering parameters, provides automated reports and logs maintenance actions without burdening ABB’s network. As a result, defects and process interruptions have more than halved since March 2000, maintenance scheduling became straightforward, and Predisys’ solution delivered clear, measurable quality and productivity improvements.
