Improving Quality Performance and Preparing for MIPS Using More Accurate Data

EVMS Medical Group, a not-for-profit physician group with more than 200 providers across 20 locations, used PrecisionBI (PBI) to support clinical quality analytics and reporting. Their main challenge was not generating reports, but making sure the patient population and quality data used in PQRS registry reporting was accurate, since standard EHR reports could include noise, miss exclusions, and fail to incorporate data from non-EHR sources.

Using PrecisionBI, EVMS Medical Group identified data gaps, refined the true denominator population, added outside data, and applied more accurate measure exclusions for quality reporting. The result was up to a 20% improvement in PQRS performance, helping the organization better meet CMS benchmarks and use the cleaner data for internal quality tracking and future MIPS reporting; PrecisionBI also plans for them to move from reports to dashboards for on-demand access to quality metrics.
