Starent Networks - Customer Case Study

Starent Networks, a global provider of network infrastructure solutions, needed to replace an overgrown Microsoft Access test engineering database that had become difficult to maintain, strained by remote access, and unable to scale with growing users and data. Practical Computer Applications (PCA) was brought in to assess the environment and recommend a sustainable path that could preserve Starent’s existing application investment while improving performance, security, and access for distributed teams.

Practical Computer Applications implemented a three-phase solution: first migrating the back-end database to SQL Server, then rebuilding the front-end as a .NET Smart Client application, and finally extending it with flexible grid-based reporting and multi-platform test support. The new system delivered a more powerful, scalable real-time application used across five continents, improved reporting flexibility and accuracy, reduced one-off reporting requests from about 20 per week to nearly zero, and gave Starent a stronger, more sustainable testing platform.
