A Practical Computer Applications Case Study
Medtronic, a manufacturer and marketer of medical devices, needed a repeatable and efficient way to track part inventories and product configurations in its manufacturing environment. Its new MRP system lacked the needed functionality, and paper-based processes were inconsistent, time-consuming, and made it difficult to track part relationships, business constraints, and technician sign-offs. Practical Computer Applications (PCA) addressed these challenges with a custom parts management and tracking system for Medtronic’s catheter production facilities.
Practical Computer Applications designed a solution that supported Medtronic’s document-based parts tracking process and integrated with the MAX MRP system, labeling and barcoding systems, and corporate reporting tools. The results included greatly improved efficiency, with some operations seeing a 10-fold improvement, reduced human error, better product data consistency, highly customized reports, and system reliability above 99.9% uptime.
