Blackwell Publishing, Inc. - Customer Case Study

Blackwell Publishing, Inc., a leading society publisher, needed a better way to manage its highly fluid telemarketing sales process across multiple disconnected sources such as direct mail, trade conference cards, and in-house calling efforts. The company struggled with duplicate and erroneous sales orders as professors changed universities, courses, and textbook needs over time. Practical Computer Applications (PCA) was brought in to design a solution from scratch, using an MS Access database application.

Practical Computer Applications (PCA) developed an MS Access database system to track professors, universities, textbooks, tasks, and follow-ups, while also managing mail and telephone campaign budgets. The solution included functions to flag and remove duplicate or inaccurate orders, and its simple interface let Blackwell train temporary sales staff in just 20 minutes. As a result, Blackwell improved sales accuracy and efficiency, reduced training and payroll costs, and achieved more predictable sales in less time.
