Advest, one of the nation’s oldest brokerage firms, needed a better way for its bankers to target, research, and track companies involved in large merger and acquisition deals. Practical Computer Applications (PCA) found that existing off-the-shelf contact management tools were too focused on individuals and did not support the company- and deal-centric workflow Advest needed for managing M&A opportunities and related relationships.

Practical Computer Applications implemented a custom MS Access database solution tailored to Advest’s M&A and financing deal lifecycle process. PCA delivered data-rich screens for companies, industries, individuals, and deal engagements, plus data import tools from Excel, ACT!, and other systems. The result was improved team coordination, consistent multi-user data entry, stronger management reporting, and greater confidence that all deal participants were working from the same complete contact history.
