A PowerSteering Case Study
Staples, the world’s largest office products company with $25 billion in annual sales and operations in more than 26 countries, faced the challenge of creating a consistent process excellence culture across 2,200+ stores, 90,000 employees, 7,500 SKUs and multiple service centers. Scaling common processes, language and accountability globally required a foundation of people, governance and technology.
Staples built a community around three pillars—community building, leadership and project portfolio management—and deployed PowerSteering PPM to provide transparency, dashboards and reliable project data. The program has driven a positive bottom line since 2006, with 400+ active projects across 16 deployment locations and a trained corps of Master Black Belts, Black Belts and Green Belts, enabling Staples to quantify results, secure executive support and sustain continuous improvement.
