A PowerSchool Case Study
Sarasota County Public Schools, which serves over 40,000 K–12 students in Florida, needed to meet the requirements of Florida House Bill 7071 by strengthening college- and career-readiness beginning in middle school. District leaders recognized students must enter high school with a clear success plan, but lacked a systematic way to build and document those plans at the middle-school level.
With support from The Education Foundation of Sarasota County, the district rolled out Naviance by PowerSchool across all middle schools (and most high schools), established on-campus Student Success Centers staffed by advisors, set aside weekly curriculum time for use, and created career and college exploration opportunities. As a result, 92% of Sarasota County middle school students completed personalized career portfolios before high school, smoothing transitions, improving counselor insight into incoming students, and positioning the district to meet HB 7071 mandates.
