A PowerSchool Case Study
Napa Valley Unified School District (NVUSD), a California district serving more than 17,000 students across 29 schools, launched the Adelante Migrant Education Program to support migrant families who often move for agricultural work. When the 2020 summer program shifted to a virtual format due to the pandemic, NVUSD faced the dual challenge of helping students recover lost credits while also addressing limited awareness of college options and financial barriers that kept many migrant students from seeing postsecondary paths.
To meet that need, NVUSD added a four-week virtual College, Career, and Life Readiness (CCLR) curriculum using Naviance by PowerSchool for 80 students across four high schools, combining strengths and career assessments with lessons on college searches, financial aid, resumes, and support networks. Post-program survey results showed 56% of students changed their post‑high‑school plans, 75% intended to speak with counselors about preparatory classes, and 91% planned to discuss college and career goals with their families, helping students stay on track for graduation and expand their postsecondary options.
