Case Study: Providence Public Schools achieves lower chronic absenteeism and stronger family engagement with PowerSchool's Attendance Intervention Suite

Maintaining a strong school climate and culture of engagement and attendance

Providence Public Schools partnered with Kinvolved (now Unified Operations Attendance Intervention Suite) in a 2018 pilot to address chronic absenteeism and strengthen family engagement. Schools struggled to track attendance—especially during distance learning—and to engage diverse families, including those who speak languages other than English.

The district adopted Attendance Intervention Suite districtwide, using its data-driven attendance reports and multilingual, targeted messaging to engage families and coordinate interventions. Results include a 4.2% drop in chronic absence, messaging growth from 21,824 messages in 2018 to over 4.4 million in 2019–20, and concrete school-level wins (for example, Del Sesto Middle School’s targeted reminders restored Friday attendance to about 90%), helping PPSD transition quickly during COVID-19.
