A PowerSchool Case Study
John Adams High School in Queens serves 2,366 students (75% free/reduced lunch, 14% English learners) and entered 2015 with chronic absenteeism at 43% and a graduation rate of 66%. Leaders also identified a pattern of students skipping the last periods of the day and lacked a consistent way to track attendance or engage families around college and career readiness.
The school implemented Kinvolved’s KiNVO (now PowerSchool Unified Home™ Attend) for real‑time attendance tracking, automated family notifications, and weekly progress monitoring. As a result, period attendance, tutoring and after‑school participation, and credit accumulation improved; chronic absenteeism fell and the graduation rate rose 11 points (66% to 77%), while overall attendance and college‑readiness indices also increased.
