How One Kansas School District is Using Data to Rethink Common Assessments

Lawrence Public Schools in Kansas, working under a new superintendent’s strategic plan, needed a way to create standards-based common assessments, analyze student performance, and deliver timely reports. Without a unified platform the district couldn’t reliably identify learning loss or at-risk students and lacked the tools and processes for consistent assessment and review—shortcomings made more urgent by COVID-related disruptions.

The district implemented Unified Classroom Performance Matters with Schoology and PowerSchool SIS to create and deliver 19–25 district common assessments per testing window (over 100 to date). Centralizing data has streamlined reporting, revived PLC collaboration, enabled early-warning identification of at-risk students, and given teachers actionable insights for targeted remediation—helping address learning loss and accelerate student learning gains.
