A PowerSchool Case Study

How One California District is Leading the Way with Interoperable Edtech

Modesto City Schools, a California district serving about 30,000 students, struggled with dozens of disconnected applications, manual CALPADS reporting, time‑consuming professional development, and a large 1:1 device rollout that risked fragmenting instruction. District leaders needed a single, interoperable platform to connect students, teachers, administrators, and families, simplify operations, and deliver usable data to drive personalized, whole‑child instruction.

Modesto partnered with PowerSchool and deployed PowerSchool SIS, Unified Classroom (Schoology Learning), Performance Matters, Naviance, Unified Talent Professional Learning, and Ecollect Forms. The integrated suite automated rostering and reporting, centralized data and assessments, streamlined PD, and gave teachers one place for assignments and insights — helping sustain instruction for 30,000 students, improve teacher efficiency and adoption, enable earlier interventions, and contribute to outcomes such as an 8% reduction in Ds and Fs.
