A PowerSchool Case Study
Goochland County Public Schools, a 2,600-student district outside Richmond, VA, implemented PowerSchool Analytics in 2012 to address a lack of cross-assessment visibility and missed federal targets. Educators had assessment data in separate tools and spreadsheets, relied on gut instincts and spiral-bound watch lists, and could not reliably identify or track struggling students or the effectiveness of interventions.
By centralizing longitudinal data in a student data warehouse and using digital watch lists, eligibility triggers, performance snapshots and biannual growth assessments, the district began identifying at-risk students early and assigning targeted Tier I/II interventions. The shift to data-driven collaboration coincided with measurable gains: ACT scores rose from 19.7 to 21.2 (2015), AP pass rates climbed from 55% to 75% (2016), graduation increased from 91.4% to 96.7% (a 5.3% jump), dropout rates fell from 3.1% to 1.9%, and two monitored subgroups achieved 100% graduation.
