A PowerSchool Case Study
Hamilton Grange Middle School, a West Harlem public middle school serving about 320 students (roughly 20% in temporary housing and 90% Spanish-speaking), struggled at the onset of COVID-19 with outdated contact information, language barriers, and the inability to locate and engage students who needed devices or remote support. These gaps threatened equitable access to remote learning and made attendance monitoring and family communication difficult.
By using PowerSchool’s Unified Operations Communication (formerly KiNVO), the school deployed instantly translated, two-way text and voice messaging to crowdsource updated contact data, coordinate outreach, and monitor engagement. The platform enabled Hamilton Grange to identify needs and distribute roughly 250 laptops in two days, increase two-way message exchanges per student by 200%, improve contact-data accuracy, and sustain effective remote attendance tracking and parent engagement.
