Lancaster School District (CA) Cuts Chronic Absenteeism, Boosts Attendance

Lancaster School District in California faced a severe post-pandemic attendance crisis, with chronic absenteeism approaching 50% district-wide. To address the challenge, the district worked with PowerSchool and used PowerSchool’s Attendance Intervention software, integrated with PowerSchool SIS, to improve outreach, data visibility, and family engagement.

PowerSchool helped Lancaster implement proactive attendance postcards, multilingual communications, and better intervention tracking for staff. As a result, chronic absenteeism fell from 48.3% to 30.21% in five years, some schools improved by nearly 50%, and daily attendance rose from 90.18% to 91.55% in one year.
