Home Outlet, a 135-year-old building materials supplier with more than 100 stores across 17 states, launched ecommerce in 2018 to expand its reach and serve customers amid COVID-19 disruptions. With a small ecommerce team and pandemic-driven supply and in-store capacity challenges, the company needed an affordable, scalable way to grow online sales and give shoppers confidence in buying building supplies sight-unseen.
Home Outlet partnered with PowerReviews to implement ratings, reviews and user-generated images, plus best-practice tactics (post-purchase emails and sweepstakes) to boost review volume and insights. In the first seven months they collected 195 reviews (4.47 average rating) and added 151 more via outreach; UGC now informs marketing, customer service and purchasing decisions, and helped propel a year-over-year ecommerce increase that the company expects will double online sales.
