Prince George Develops Process for Asset Investment Optimization

The City of Prince George, a Northern B.C. municipality of about 76,000, needed to optimize capital investment across major linear assets (roads, water, storm and drainage) and replace an unsupported pavement management system while linking asset data to GIS and source systems. PowerPlan was engaged to implement an integrated asset investment and capital planning solution, using PowerPlan-based pavement analytics and GIS integration to support multi-asset prioritization and long‑range forecasting.

PowerPlan implemented lifecycle models, live GIS links, workshops to capture local engineering rules (in partnership with AECOM), and prioritized renewal/replacement strategies to coordinate work across assets and geography. The project was delivered on time and on budget; Prince George now runs 5-, 10- and 100‑year condition and cost forecasts, produces defendable capital budgets, optimizes timing of road and utility projects to reduce total reinvestment costs, and has extended the solution to pedestrian network and facilities planning — all enabled by PowerPlan.
