Ottawa Infrastructure Services Department Builds Upon Integrated Asset Planning

The City of Ottawa Infrastructure Services Department (ISD) engaged PowerPlan and its PowerPlan Asset Decision Support solution to replace spreadsheet- and database-driven processes and to implement long‑range planning for roadway and buried linear infrastructure. Prior to the implementation, ISD staff spent significant effort manipulating unstable legacy data, lacked the ability to forecast beyond a few years, and needed a more flexible way to turn data into information for Council and shift from an “asset stewardship” to a “service‑based” approach.

PowerPlan delivered a web‑based asset optimization solution integrated with Esri ArcGIS and Maximo, documenting deterioration curves and lifecycle logic for pavement, water and wastewater assets and enabling interaction modeling across asset types. The implementation gives the ISD a central, real‑time asset repository, synchronized GIS condition data, component‑level condition indices and unified treatment/cost forecasting over a 100‑year window—improving prioritization, reporting and long‑range budgeting through PowerPlan.
