Case Study: Austin Energy achieves Texas Nodal compliance and streamlined Maximo implementation with PowerPlan

A PowerPlan Case Study

Preview of the Austin Energy Case Study

Minimize risk and optimize maximo’s implementation with PowerPlan

Austin Energy, the municipal utility serving Greater Austin, needed to meet detailed Texas Nodal Market requirements that its legacy financial and operations systems couldn’t support. To avoid costly Maximo customizations and additional head count while achieving unit-level operational and asset costing, Austin Energy implemented IBM Maximo alongside the PowerPlan solution suite, with PowerPlan recommended by IBM to fill the gap between work management and the city’s general ledger.

PowerPlan was rolled out concurrently with Maximo as an interpretive sub-ledger and automated accounting layer, using proprietary derivation accounting to translate Maximo work orders into G/L-ready transactions, eliminate spreadsheets, and automate asset additions/retirements. The PowerPlan implementation cut Maximo implementation risk and cost, supported ~1,500 employees capturing detailed work-order costs without added staff, improved reporting for ERCOT nodal compliance (enabling potentially millions in power sales revenue), sped damage-claim billing, and reduced IT and accounting overhead.
