Kansas City Power & Light Company Uses PowerPlan to Innovate For Future Business Events

Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L), an Evergy utility serving over 800,000 customers, faced data inconsistencies caused by mergers, system changes and manual data entry that threatened reporting accuracy and future business events. To address this, KCP&L partnered with PowerPlan as a Premier Application Managed Services client and engaged PowerPlan’s Key Business Event Readiness review to assess asset data and integrations.

PowerPlan ran roughly 80 condition checks, identified three major data issues, and implemented targeted fixes—adding 124 valid utility account/property unit combinations, updating the functional class on 551 assets across five utility accounts, and correcting GL posting dates on 4 assets—resulting in cleaner reports, fewer field-entry errors and greater audit confidence. By delivering these corrections and a prioritized remediation plan, PowerPlan enabled KCP&L to avoid costly downstream manual fixes and better prepare for month‑end close, filings and future M&A activity.
