Powering the Safe Transition to Electric Vehicles at Cardiff Bus

Cardiff Bus, a municipally owned operator with a 177-vehicle fleet, needed to safely transition diesel buses to electric while maintaining consistent, fuel-efficient driving across its workforce. To meet this challenge they partnered with Powerfleet, deploying its MiX4000 telematics with ROVi Mini cameras, Driver Coaching Module, custom EV monitoring scripts, ticket-machine driver ID integration and comparative reporting tools.

Powerfleet’s integrated telematics and EV Driver Engagement Program combined real-time monitoring, AI-enabled video coaching and targeted driver training, delivering measurable results: a 93% reduction in harsh acceleration events, a 25% reduction in harsh braking, a fleet safety score improvement to 4.6 (green), and 67% of drivers in the green category. The solution also extended EV battery range, reduced charging dwell time and vehicle wear, provided early mechanical warnings, and shifted Cardiff Bus’s safety culture toward sustained operational excellence.
