Power Factors’ EMS and SCADA Provide the Performance and Control Backbone for One of the World’s Largest Solar-Plus-Storage Hybrid Projects

A global renewable developer faced the challenge of controlling one of the world's largest solar-plus-storage hybrid projects in the EMEA region. The large-scale facility, comprising 540 MWdc of solar PV and a 225 MWh battery system, required a sophisticated approach to manage its three sub-plants and ensure consistent, dispatchable power to the national grid. To address this, they partnered with Power Factors to implement an advanced energy management system (EMS) and SCADA system.

Power Factors implemented a complex control configuration featuring a primary hybrid power plant controller (H-PPC) and six secondary controllers. This solution serves as the "brain" of the project, modulating the solar power with the battery storage to supply a reliable 150MW for over 16 hours daily. Power Factors’ SCADA system manages vast amounts of data for operations and maintenance teams, generates key performance indicators, and ensures the plant's optimal performance, successfully converting intermittent solar energy into a dependable resource for the grid.
