Case Study: Capital Koala helps parents save more for their children with Powens Open Banking

A Powens Case Study

Preview of the Capital Koala Case Study

Open Banking technology enable Capital Koala to help parents put money aside painlessly for their children’s future

Capital Koala helps parents save for their children’s future goals, such as education or a first home, through a cashback-based loyalty program. The challenge was extending its online offering to brick-and-mortar purchases, while keeping customer bank data secure. To do this, Capital Koala used Powens’ Bank product and Open Banking technology to aggregate bank data and identify eligible purchases in physical stores.

Powens enabled Capital Koala to deploy an offline solution by tracking purchases at partner retailers through its API and passing the data to Paylead, which handled cashback collection and payout into children’s savings accounts. The result was a turnkey setup that let Capital Koala focus on its community, with savings rising from €150 to as much as €500 per user per child per year, over 8,000 partner stores, and €5 million paid out to children since 2011.
